In 1991 I became a founding member of EICAR.
In 1999 I became the EICAR-News Editor. It is the magazine of the known EICAR Organisation.
In March 2001 I became the EICAR Director of Press and Information for EICAR (Board Member).
I have made a definition change of the EICAR test file possible at the end of 2002.
(I am not the designer of the original definition.)
This was done with the experienced help of several Anti-Virus Experts from the complete Anti-Virus industry.
You find industry, universities, security authorities, lawyers and
media united, whose initial objective it was to build up an organized,
non-commercial anti-virus warning system relying on reciprocity.
In the meantime the institute is international and of course deals with
security objectives of all kinds.
EICAR combines universities, industry and media plus
technical, security and legal experts from civil and military
government and law enforcement as well as privacy
protection organisations whose objectives are to unite
non-commercial efforts against writing and proliferation of
malicious code like computer viruses or Trojan Horses,
and, against computer crime, fraud and the misuse of
computers or networks, inclusive malicious exploitation of
personnel data, based on a code of conduct.
EICAR and the Anti-Virus Industry created also the so called EICAR test-file-virus
which is not a virus but a real test file which is treated by Anti-Virus products as a real virus.
